Statement on the Period of Mourning for the Death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip

Period of National Mourning for His Royal Highness The Prince Philip,

Duke of Edinburgh

Following the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Endinburgh, the Governor and his Office will observe a period of national morning in respect of his passing.

Tomorrow (Saturday, 10 April) the Governor will attend a private 21-gun salute staged by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force at 12:00 noon in Queen Elizabeth II Park.

The Territory of the Virgin Islands will fly flags at half-mast outside of its buildings, until after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, details of which will be confirmed in due course.

A condolence book will be opened on Monday at the Old Government House Museum. This will be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. on Monday until 3:00 p.m., and then 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each working day until the day before the funeral. COVID-19 protocols must be observed; please bring your own pen, wear a mask. Visitors should park on the road outside the Governor’s Office and walk through the main gate to the museum. You can also pay tribute via the official website for the Royal Family, where an online condolence book will soon be available; please visit www.royal.uk.

The Palace does not expect, nor would encourage, the sending of a wreath or flowers. If you wish to do so, a donation to a charity would be welcome.
