Premier Fahie Congratulates Prime Minister Mottley On Re-Election

Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has congratulated Prime Minister of the new Republic of Barbados Honourable Mia Amor Mottley Q.C., M.P. on her resounding re-election victory on  January 19, 2022, following the country’s monumental transition to  that political status just over one month ago. 

In a letter to Prime Minister Mottley, Premier Fahie said, “The successful General Election continues the strong tradition of democracy in the Republic of Barbados and the wider Caribbean that makes our region a beacon for other parts of the world, especially during these challenging and uncertain times.”  

The Premier also hailed the Prime Minister’s leadership, saying: “I very much welcome your return as Prime Minister. Your regional and international leadership on climate change and a strong voice on behalf of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) have been admirable. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your country’s support within CARICOM regarding the right of the people of the British Virgin Islands to self-governance and self-determination.” 

Looking ahead, Premier Fahie wished Prime Minister Mottley a successful second term in office in which the Republic of Barbados and the British Virgin Islands would remain engaged on common challenges and opportunities.
