Message from His Majesty King Charles III on Virgin Islands Day
Statement

Organisation: Governor’s Office

Release Date: 6 July, 2026

Dear Governor,

As the people of the Virgin Islands mark the occasion of Virgin Islands Day, my wife and I are pleased to extend our sincere congratulations to your Premier and to all those who call the Territory home.

I have long held a deep affection for the Overseas Territories and greatly value the distinct character, traditions and contributions of each within our wider British family.  The strength of community, pride in heritage and commitment to progress are qualities that I deeply admire.

The prosperity and identity of the Virgin Islands is closely bound to the natural environment.  I am therefore especially encouraged by the Territory’s continued commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.  The introduction of renewable solar energy in Anegada represents an

important step towards a more resilient and sustainable future.  Likewise, initiatives such as the 2026 Impact Challenge to safeguard ocean health, and the continuing partnership between the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands and Kew to monitor biodiversity, demonstrates the value of collaboration between governments, businesses and communities in preserving the Territory’s unique natural heritage.

At a time when small island communities stand at the forefront of the effects of climate change, such efforts carry particular significance and serve as an example to others across our global family.

My wife and I trust that the coming year will bring continued progress, resilience and wellbeing to the people of the Virgin Islands.

Charles R.
