The largest and highest of the islands, Tortola is also the most populated. Road Town, located on the shores of Road Harbour, is the Territory’s capital and the centre of Government and business, with restaurants, shops, museums, and hotels. Main Street, the original heart of the town, retains many charming vernacular buildings, the shops and houses of the early 20th century.

West End and East End, as their names imply, are villages on either side of the island; interspersed between are stunning beaches and bays, colourful gardens, historic buildings and ruins, village churches, and national parks. Often shrouded in clouds and mist, Sage Mountain is the backdrop to life on Tortola.
